We grow and sell Arabica roasted coffee beans in 8 oz bags. We have ˝ acre of drip irrigated trees, located at about 1000 feet elevation on the Hamakua Coast near Honokaa, Big Island of Hawaii. The Google Earth location is 20° 04’ 16.44” N, 155° 26’ 20.22” W, taken in late 2003 early 2004. Prior to 1997-98, this land was used to grow irrigated sugar cane. We started planting trees in the summer of 2003 and by the beginning of 2004, had 7 rows of about 40 trees each. 2007 was the first year of commercial production; about 1700 lbs of coffee cherry. This 2007 batch of medium-dark roasted coffee was roasted May 23, 2008. Our next roast date is not certain, but will occur sometime before October 2008. Coffee is processed through several stages; cherry-parchment-green-roasted. We pick the coffee cherry, pulp and dry the coffee parchment, and store it in burlap bags until there is about 30 lbs of parchment. At the proper moisture content, we de-hull the parchment to produce green coffee beans and take them to be roasted and bagged.
